Priority Issues

What we fight for.

Four issue domains. Every one connects to the same question: what does it take for Black political power to produce material change?

01
Core Issue

Voting Rights

The right to vote is the foundation. Every restriction on ballot access — voter ID requirements, registration barriers, polling place reductions, early voting cuts, mail ballot limitations — is an attack on Black political power. We track every restriction bill, educate voters on its impact, and organize opposition before it becomes law.

Current focus: 134 voter restriction bills introduced across 12 target states since January 2025. 28 signed into law. We are fighting the rest.

02
Core Issue

Political Accountability

Black voters deliver margins. Elected officials who win on those margins are accountable to those voters. We publish legislative scorecards that track how elected officials vote on issues that affect Black communities. We run accountability campaigns when the gap between their rhetoric and their record becomes indefensible.

Current focus: The Accountability Project — scorecards for every state legislator in a majority-Black district across 12 target states.

03
Core Issue

Economic Justice

Political power that does not produce economic change is incomplete. We advocate for policy conditions — in housing, small business development, capital access, and workplace equity — that convert Black political representation into measurable improvements in Black economic standing.

Current focus: State-level economic equity legislation tracking; advocacy on housing policy in target states; small business access to capital campaigns.

04
Core Issue

Criminal Justice Reform

Mass incarceration is a direct continuation of the disenfranchisement strategies that dismantled Reconstruction. Felony disenfranchisement laws, cash bail, and prosecutorial discretion disparities are not separate from voting rights — they are voting rights issues. We advocate for reforms that restore political participation and end the criminalization of Black communities.

Current focus: Felony re-enfranchisement legislation in target states; cash bail reform advocacy; prosecutorial accountability campaigns.
